DIRECT INCISION OR Z-PLASTY

Men with sagging necks are a challenge for the plastic surgeon. Traditional facelift incisions may be hidden around the ears but as most men wear shorter hairstyles the traditional incision lines may be visible. In addition, men who undergo traditional facelifts often find themselves shaving under and behind their earlobes due to the lifting of bearded skin into these areas.

An option for men is the Direct Neck Excision with Z-Plasty. In this procedure, sagging skin, muscle, and fat are removed along the front of the neck, and the incision is closed into a Z shape to improve contour. This procedure, properly performed, provides durable rejuvenation for the male neck, without the problems associated with the more traditional facelift.

Occasionally, women are also a candidate for this procedure. Good female candidates tend to have extreme ìturkey gobblersî without much jowling along the jawline. Direct Neck Excision and Z-Plasty can also be a good finishing touch for a tiny bit of remaining neck looseness after previous facelift surgery.

If you are considering facial surgery the process begins with the consultation. In assessing your overall health, facial characteristics and concerns Dr. Bounds will consider different options to design a plan to meet your personal aesthetic goals. In addition, should you desire improvements of the eyelids, eyebrows, chin or earlobe areas, Dr. Bounds can incorporate these areas into your plan.

Is this Surgery right for Me?
Personal Decision

Every year thousands of individuals, male and female choose surgery to help them feel and look more youthful and energetic. The decision to pursue surgery is a very personal and important one. The factors that will influence your decision are unique to you. Our experience and expertise can help make your decision a little easier. You can find out if this is the right choice for you by contacting our office for a consultation.

The Surgery

As an outpatient, Dr. Bounds and his Anesthesiologist have your safety and comfort in mind. After surgery in the Operating Suite you will awake from the surgery in our Recovery Room, attended by a Registered Nurse. Once you are fully awake you may then go home with a family member or trusted close friend.

After a week women may wear makeup, men may shave, and almost everyone is ìpresentableî to run errands or go back to work. Especially easy bruisers, or patients over 65, may require another two to three days for most of the bruising to resolve. By two to three weeks, in most people the surgery is "undetectable".

Over the ensuing weeks and months, you will find your incision lines, in a Z-shape in the front of your neck, heal gradually. By three to four months, the pinkness is generally gone and the incision line barely noticeable. While duration of results depends on lifestyle, genetics, and ongoing skin care and sun protection, direct neck excision and Z-Plasty a long-lasting treatment option for sagging necks.
