Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Whether your ears are too large or they
stick out too far from your head, prominent ears are an easy target for
teasing, jokes and ridicule. Otoplasty, also called ear surgery, is the
surgical solution. Otoplasty sets prominent ears back closer to the head
and reduces the size of large ears.
Ear surgery may be performed on adults as
well as children. If youre considering ear surgery, the process
begins with the consultation. In assessing your overall health and the
physical characteristics of your ears (such as the size and symmetry)
a plan can be formulated to achieve the best result for you.
Is this right for me?
A Personal Decision
Every year many thousands of adults and
children undergo successful otoplasty. The decision to pursue otoplasty
is a very personal and important one. The factors that will affect your
decision and outcome are unique to you.
Our experience and expertise can make your
choice a little easier. You can find out if this procedure is right for
you by contacting our office for a consultation.
The Surgery
As an outpatient, Dr. Bounds and his Board
Certified or Board Eligible Anesthesiologist have your safety and comfort in mind. After
surgery in the Operating Suite, you will awake from the surgery in the
Recovery Room, attended by a Registered Nurse. Once youre fully
awake you may then go home with a family member or trusted close friend.
Typically you should be able to return to
work within four to seven days, depending on the level of activity required
for your job. Strenuous activity and contact sports may be resumed in
one to two months.
